New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday announced that the Army officer who assaulted a SpiceJet staffer at Srinagar airport has been placed on the no-fly list for five years.

The incident occurred on July 26, when the officer allegedly attacked four SpiceJet ground staff members after being stopped for carrying excess hand baggage.

SpiceJet employee Mudasir Ahmad, who suffered a spinal fracture in the assault, recalled that the officer’s hand baggage weighed 16 kg and he was carrying two bags, despite the airline’s rule permitting only one bag weighing up to 7 kg. “He hit me on my face with baggage, slapped me, and continued punching and kicking until I fell,” Ahmad said.

According to Ahmad, the officer also pushed Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and entered the boarding gate without clearance. He further created a scene by throwing items from his bag at airline staff.

On August 3, the Indian Army issued a statement acknowledging the matter and assured full cooperation with authorities. “The Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and conduct and takes all allegations seriously. Full cooperation is being extended in the investigation,” it said.
