Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has ordered the attachment of the residential property of Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom in Srinagar in connection with a 2009 case related to an anti-national seminar allegedly addressed by several separatist leaders.
According to the order issued by the DGP, on December 31, 2009, Shaheed Gunj Police received information about a seminar held at Hotel Jahangir, Srinagar, marking the death anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event, organised by Feroz Ahmad Khan of the Muslim League, was attended by several separatist leaders, including Aasia Andrabi, Shabir Ahmad Najar, and Mian Abdul Qayoom, who allegedly delivered anti-India speeches and raised provocative slogans.
During the investigation, witness statements indicated that the participants made inflammatory remarks, incited the audience, and promoted the secession of Jammu and Kashmir.
A subsequent search of Mian Qayoom’s residence, conducted under a magistrate’s warrant, led to the recovery of banned literature, a Hizbul Mujahideen letterhead bearing a seal impression, a press-note-style document, and a letter from Syed Salahuddin addressed to then US President Bill Clinton. Another Hizbul Mujahideen seal impression in Urdu was also seized in the presence of independent witnesses and an Executive Magistrate.
Investigators determined that Qayoom allegedly used his two-storey house and adjoining land, measuring over two kanals at Bulbul Bagh, Barzulla, to conceal incriminating material and support unlawful activities.
The property, registered under mutation number 338 in Qayoom’s name, has been declared as “proceeds of terrorism,” and its attachment has been approved under relevant legal provisions.
