New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday highlighted that former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar has remained unusually silent for 50 days, even as the election for his successor is underway. The nation is still waiting for him to address the public.

Tuesday’s vice presidential election features a direct contest between NDA’s C.P. Radhakrishnan and the Opposition’s B. Sudershan Reddy, with the BJP-led alliance holding a clear advantage following Dhankar’s sudden resignation.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, noted that Dhankar’s “uncharacteristic silence” has persisted for nearly two months.

“Today, as the election for his successor begins, the nation continues to await his voice following his unprecedented resignation. This came after he raised concerns over the deep neglect of farmers by the Modi government and the dangers posed by the ‘ahankar’ of those in power,” Ramesh said.

Ahead of the election, both the ruling NDA and the Opposition INDIA bloc convened separate meetings at the Parliament complex on Monday to showcase their strength. They briefed MPs on the election process, conducted mock polls, and urged members to vote responsibly.

It is noteworthy that MPs are not bound by party whips in the vice presidential election, which is conducted via a secret ballot.
