Diljit Dosanjh adopts 10 flood-hit villages in Punjab

Chandigarh (Punjab): As Punjab battles severe floods, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has stepped forward by adopting ten of the worst-affected villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar. Working with NGOs and the local administration, his team said the focus is on providing food, water, and medical aid, alongside long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction. “Together, we can rebuild,” read a post on his Instagram.

Other celebrities have also pledged support. Actor Sonam Bajwa shared that she is contributing to ground-level organisations and urged fans to help:
“The images and stories are heartbreaking, but Punjab’s spirit of unity gives me hope. Every small contribution can change someone’s life. Let’s stand by Punjab in this crucial time.”

On X, actor Sanjay Dutt wrote, “The devastation caused by the floods in Punjab is truly heartbreaking. Sending strength and prayers to everyone impacted. I will support in every way I can.”

Singer-actor Ammy Virk announced that his team has adopted 200 homes for displaced families:
“This is not just about shelter — it’s about giving hope, dignity, and strength to start again.”

Punjabi singer-actor Himanshi Khurana also promised to help resettle 10 families, urging all celebrities, leaders, and citizens to unite in relief efforts. “We will make Punjab like it was before. Every Punjabi’s heart is crying, but together we can find solutions,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has shut down all 43 centres of the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) till September 3 due to the worsening situation.

Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian reported that floods have impacted over 2.56 lakh people in 12 districts, damaging homes, crops, and livestock. So far, 15,688 people have been evacuated — with the highest numbers from Gurdaspur (5,549), Ferozepur (3,321), and Fazilka (2,049).

The state has set up 129 relief camps sheltering 7,144 people, the largest being in Ferozepur (3,987), followed by Fazilka (1,201) and Hoshiarpur (478).
