Mumbai: The Netflix biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, has earned two nominations at the 2025 International Emmy Awards, bringing immense joy to the cast and crew.
Diljit Dosanjh, nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for his portrayal of the legendary Punjabi singer, shared his excitement on Instagram, attributing the success to the film’s director. “It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial Sir,” he wrote.
He will be competing with some of the world’s most celebrated actors, including David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto / I, Addict), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude).
Parineeti Chopra, who played a pivotal role as Chamkila’s wife Amarjot Kaur, expressed her delight as well: “WOOOHOOOO! Proud of my Team Chamkla!”
The film also received a nomination in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category, marking a double celebration for the team.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila chronicles the life of Punjab’s iconic folk singer, often referred to as the “Elvis of Punjab.” Chamkila rose to fame in the 1980s with his bold lyrics and electrifying performances, but his life was tragically cut short in 1988 when he and his wife were murdered at the age of 27.
Diljit Dosanjh brings Chamkila to life on screen, while Parineeti Chopra portrays Amarjot Kaur. Released on Netflix in April 2024, the film, written by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali, has been widely praised for its live-recorded folk music and emotionally compelling storytelling.
