Virat Kohli eyeing 2027 World Cup comeback, reveals Dinesh Karthik
New Delhi: Ahead of India’s ODI series against Australia, former cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) mentor Dinesh Karthik has revealed that batting icon Virat Kohli is determined to return for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, having resumed intensive training during his recent break in London.
In a video shared on Instagram, Karthik said the 36-year-old star was working hard to stay match-ready despite his time away from competitive cricket.
“He is keen to play the 2027 World Cup. During his break in London, he was training regularly — 2-3 cricket sessions every week. He’s very serious about making that comeback,” Karthik shared.
Kohli, India’s second-highest run-scorer in ODIs, has 14,181 runs in 302 matches at an average of 57.88, including 51 centuries and 74 fifties. In 2025, he has amassed 275 runs in seven innings at an average of 45.83, with one century and two half-centuries.
His last international appearance came in March, during India’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning campaign, where he contributed 218 runs in five matches, including a century against Pakistan and an 84 against Australia in the semifinals.
Kohli has also enjoyed tremendous success in Australian conditions, scoring 1,327 runs in 29 ODIs at an average of 51.03, with five hundreds and six fifties. His recent run of scores against Australia — 54, 56, 85, 54, and 84 — further underscores his consistency.
