JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, along with an inter-ministerial team led by Joint Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Col. Kirti Pratap Singh, convened a meeting at the Divisional Commissioner’s office to review the damages caused by heavy rains and floods in the Jammu region.
The Government of India has deputed this central team to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the destruction triggered by flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides in the division. The delegation includes officials from the Ministries of Road Transport & Highways, Power, Rural Development, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Jal Shakti, and Finance. Over the next four days, the team will inspect affected areas to evaluate the ground situation.
Senior officials including the Commissioner JMC, Managing Director JPDCL, Directors of Rural Development, Food & Civil Supplies, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, as well as HoDs and representatives of PWD, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, NHAI, Railways, and other concerned departments participated in the meeting.
A detailed PowerPoint presentation was given, highlighting the extent of damage to private property, public infrastructure, and loss of lives. The Divisional Commissioner briefed the team on the worst-affected areas and the extensive damage caused to essential services such as roads, electricity, and water supply schemes.
He further informed the members about the ongoing relief and rescue operations being carried out on a war footing with the support of security forces, emergency responders, NDRF, UTDRF, Police, Army, and CAPFs to safeguard lives and restore normalcy.
The meeting also deliberated on the challenges posed by incessant rains, flash floods, and landslides, which have severely disrupted daily life in the region. Special focus was laid on restoring road connectivity, power infrastructure, and water supply at the earliest.
The inter-ministerial team will now conduct extensive field visits across Jammu division to assess the scale of losses before submitting a comprehensive report to the Government of India.
