Divisional Commissioner attends Gandhi Jayanti event organized by Gandhi Global Family

JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, attended an event organized by Gandhi Global Family (GGF) J&K today at the historic Diwan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Jammu, to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

In his address, Ramesh Kumar urged students and youth to embrace Gandhian values in their daily lives to foster a peaceful and harmonious society. He highlighted the enduring relevance of non-violence, a cornerstone of Bapu’s philosophy, especially in today’s global context, and stressed the importance of national integration and equitable development. Emphasizing Gandhi’s commitment to cleanliness, he encouraged everyone to make personal and environmental hygiene a civic responsibility.

Padma Shri Dr. S. P. Varma, President of GGF J&K, called for strengthening global brotherhood and peace. He reiterated that Gandhian principles—simplicity, non-violence, truthfulness, self-reliance, and compassion—offer practical solutions to contemporary global challenges.

The event also marked the observance of International Non-Violence Day 2025. Students from various schools and colleges presented speeches and presentations highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to world peace and non-violence. Tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. People from all walks of life, including students, teachers, senior citizens, and dignitaries, joined in offering floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

A special felicitation ceremony recognized prominent social activists for their exceptional humanitarian efforts, particularly during Operation Sindoor and the Jammu floods. The awardees included Summi Sahi Seth, Renu Anthony, Joginder Kaur, Dr. Jyoti Malhotra, Punit Kaur, Neetu Bali, Dr. Perivinder Kaur, Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Er. S. K. Vaid, Sharat Sharma, Bhanu Pratap Singh, S. Gurdeep Singh Comrade, Er. Dalbir Singh Chib, and Amit Varma.

The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Perivinder Kaur, member of GGF Women Jammu, while Renu Anthony delivered the vote of thanks. Summi Sahi Seth, Vice President of GGF Women Jammu, presented a detailed report on recent humanitarian efforts by the organization during Operation Sindoor and the Jammu floods.

The event was organized under the supervision of the GGF J&K organizing committee, including Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Dr. Robin Gill, Manish Joshi, Er. Satish Vaid, Raj Kumar, Ved Verma, Gopal Sharma, and Amit Varma.
