Divisional Commissioner Reviews Post-Flood Restoration, Directs Expedite Measures

JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting to review relief and restoration efforts across the Jammu division following recent heavy rains and floods.

During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner assessed damages to public infrastructure and the status of essential services, including electricity, water supply, and road connectivity in all districts.

The Chief Engineer of JPDCL reported that electricity has been restored in all affected areas. The Jal Shakti Department confirmed that water supply has largely been restored, with only a few areas still pending.

Officials from PWD and PMGSY briefed on damaged roads and ongoing repair works. The Divisional Commissioner issued strict instructions to expedite restoration and directed submission of detailed estimates, progress reports, and timelines for completion.

The Chief Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control updated on the restoration of canals damaged by floods. In the education sector, the Director of School Education stated that most schools have reopened, while others will resume after safety audits. The Divisional Commissioner instructed that classes be shifted to nearby safe buildings where schools suffered structural damage.

Damages to higher education institutions, including Jammu University and SKUAST, were also reviewed, with officials asked to submit detailed assessments and estimates for repair works.

Regarding agriculture and allied sectors, the Divisional Commissioner directed officers to survey crop losses and report infrastructure damages. Additionally, restoration needs in RDD, Floriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Health, Industries, SIDCO, and Tribal Affairs were examined.

All departments and Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to submit comprehensive reports detailing damages along with requisitions for both temporary and permanent restoration measures on a priority basis.

The meeting was attended by heads of key departments, with Deputy Commissioners and district officers participating via video conferencing.
