JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today conducted a comprehensive inspection of areas in Jammu city severely affected by heavy rains and floods.
Accompanied by the Managing Director of JPDCL, Commissioner JMC, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Chief Engineers of PWD, Jal Shakti, PDD, and other officials, the Divisional Commissioner surveyed multiple affected localities and essential infrastructure that suffered damage due to the extreme weather.
The tour began at Kalka Colony in Bahu Tehsil, where he assessed the damage to the Tawi embankment and residential houses inundated by floodwaters. He directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation to provide all necessary support to residents for the removal of remaining silt and debris.

The team then visited the water filtration plant at Har Ki Pouri, which has been partially restored. The Divisional Commissioner instructed the Chief Engineer of Jal Shakti to ensure the plant resumes full operations at the earliest.
At Rajiv Colony near Bikram Chowk, he ordered officials to repair the partially eroded Tawi embankment and instructed engineers from JPDCL and Jal Shakti to restore the local water supply scheme promptly.
In Peerkho, one of the worst-affected areas, residents informed him that Jammu Municipal Corporation had provided substantial support in clearing silt and debris from streets and homes.
Speaking to the media, the Divisional Commissioner said that water and electricity have been restored in most parts of the city, with ongoing efforts to reach the remaining severely impacted areas. He added that the district administration has provided immediate relief, and an assessment is underway to provide compensation for private property damages under SDRF norms. “The administration and government stand in full solidarity with the victims of the floods and will extend all assistance for their rehabilitation,” he stated.
The Divisional Commissioner concluded his tour with a visit to the water filtration plant at Dhonthly, which has also been partially restored. He directed PHE officials to ensure its full functionality by evening, so that water supply to the old city is fully restored.
