DLSA Srinagar Conducts Extensive Legal Awareness Programme at GBHSS Zainakoot

SRINAGAR: In a bid to enhance legal literacy among youth and empower them with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar organized a comprehensive legal awareness programme at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS), Zainakote, today.

The initiative focused on sensitizing students to key social and legal issues, including legal provisions for persons with intellectual disabilities, Solid Waste Management, and the NALSA Helpline 15100.

The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and conducted under the guidance of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge and Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.

During the session, Adv. Gazala Mumtaz Khan, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Srinagar, delivered an in-depth presentation on the legal protections for persons with intellectual disabilities, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding their rights and promoting their inclusion in society with dignity and respect. She encouraged students to cultivate empathy and highlighted mechanisms in place to ensure their welfare.

Adv. Suhaila Ali, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Srinagar, spoke on the critical issue of Solid Waste Management, stressing its significance for public health and environmental sustainability. She also explained the role of the NALSA Helpline 15100 in providing free legal aid and guidance, bridging the gap between citizens and the justice system.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which students actively engaged by asking questions and sharing their perspectives, reflecting a strong interest in legal and environmental responsibilities.
