Doda/Jammu: A 26-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself inside his house in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.
Officials identified the deceased as Ravinder Katoch, who reportedly used his father Joginder Kumar’s licensed rifle, a village defence guard weapon, to take his life at their home in Humbal village on Friday evening.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Anand said inquest proceedings have been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Doda, for postmortem and later handed over to the family for last rites.
Police said the reason behind the extreme step was not immediately known.
