Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday dismissed claims of any deliberate attempt to sabotage Jammu and Kashmir’s fruit industry. He attributed the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway to “God’s wrath” rather than human actions.

“Is there any deliberate attempt? Did people break the mountains? Did it rain because of humans? These are acts of God, a reminder that we have distanced ourselves from Him,” Abdullah told reporters in Anantnag district.

He was responding to allegations by several political leaders that fruit-laden trucks were intentionally stranded on the highway to harm the region’s economy. The former chief minister stressed that people’s neglect of prayers and moral duties contributes to such calamities.

“Do we share God’s blessings with the poor? These hardships are meant to awaken us to remember Him. Only by returning to God can we be guided out of these troubles,” he said.

Commenting on the situation in Gaza, Abdullah added, “Look at what is happening there. Israel is attempting to wipe out the people. Why is no Muslim country raising its voice? Thousands are dying because they have distanced themselves from God and fail to recognize His tests.”

When asked if political leaders were exploiting the fruit crisis, he said, “Politics will never stop in Kashmir. Some leaders survive on these issues, funded by Delhi. When that support ends, so will their influence.”
