Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said the newly inaugurated Chrysanthemum Garden in Srinagar will serve as a major attraction for tourists visiting the Valley during the autumn season.
Abdullah, who heads the ruling National Conference (NC), visited the Valley’s first-ever Chrysanthemum Garden — also known as Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood — located within the Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden.
The garden, which was opened to the public by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on October 25, showcases a wide variety of locally grown chrysanthemum flowers.
“This is a beautiful garden. None of the flowers have been imported; they have all been cultivated here. I believe after the Tulip Garden, this will be the next big attraction and will require much less maintenance,” Abdullah told reporters.
The former chief minister noted that the Valley usually lacks tourist attractions during the autumn season, and the new garden adds a vibrant touch to the landscape.
“Tourists should visit this place to witness the beauty and colours of this garden,” he said, extending his appreciation to the Floriculture Department and the gardeners for their dedicated efforts in creating such an attractive floral display.
