Kathua: In the aftermath of a cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday said helicopters have been deployed to shift the injured to nearby hospitals.
Six injured persons were airlifted to Mamoon, Pathankot, while rescue teams continue operations at the site.
On X, Singh posted: “Helicopter services have been arranged for shifting the injured to appropriate hospitals. Six injured have been airlifted for hospitalisation in Mamoon, Pathankot, which was found to be a relatively nearer destination.”
He further informed that DIG Police Shiv Kumar Sharma and his team are stationed at the site and in constant touch with him. Additional support will be provided as required.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also said the Centre is closely monitoring the situation. In a post on X, he wrote that he had spoken to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of J&K, assuring full support from the government. Shah added that the local administration and NDRF teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations.
“Assured every support from the Modi government. We stand firmly behind our sisters and brothers of J&K,” he said.
According to officials, the cloudburst has claimed at least four lives, damaged a railway track, the national highway, and the local police station. Flash floods and a landslide in Jodh village have also trapped six people and swept away several connecting roads.
