Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh is set to introduce the Nuclear Energy Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha, officials said on Tuesday. The proposed legislation aims to strengthen India’s nuclear energy framework and promote safe, sustainable, and efficient use of nuclear power across the country.
The bill seeks to modernize regulations governing nuclear energy generation, research, and allied infrastructure, ensuring enhanced safety standards and technological advancement. It also focuses on fostering private sector participation while maintaining strict compliance with international nuclear safety norms.
Dr Jitendra Singh, in his statement, highlighted that the bill is a key step toward meeting India’s growing energy needs, supporting clean energy initiatives, and boosting research and development in the nuclear sector. The minister emphasized that the legislation balances energy expansion with environmental and safety considerations.
Parliamentary discussions on the bill are expected to include inputs from experts, stakeholders, and members of relevant committees, with the government seeking broad consensus on its provisions to facilitate India’s transition toward advanced and sustainable nuclear energy deployment.
