Jammu: Police on Saturday detained an alleged drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.
The accused, identified as Makhan Din, a resident of Narsoo village, was booked under the stringent law following a formal detention order from the competent authority, a police spokesman said. He is the 11th drug peddler detained under PIT-NDPS in the district this year, the spokesman added.
According to police, Din was actively involved in drug trafficking and was promoting substance abuse among local youth, posing a serious threat to public health and safety. He has been lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu.
In a separate incident, police arrested another drug peddler, Chetan Dass, a resident of Pathankot (Punjab), after seizing 8.28 grams of heroin from his possession in Kathua district. Dass was intercepted near the Lakhanpur bypass while heading towards Kathua from Punjab.
