Doda, Dec 6: The Forest Department has sounded a high alert in the Chenab circle following a sharp rise in winter fire risk across vulnerable forest ranges. Officials said dry weather conditions, coupled with increased human activity, have heightened the possibility of forest fires in the region.

Authorities confirmed that special monitoring teams have been deployed to sensitive areas, with patrols intensified to detect and respond to fire incidents at the earliest. Firefighting equipment and rapid response units have been kept on standby to minimize damage in case of emergencies.

Senior forest officers stated that awareness drives are being conducted to educate local communities about preventive measures. Villagers and trekkers have been urged to avoid lighting fires in open areas and to immediately report any suspicious activity or smoke sightings.

The department emphasized that the Chenab circle, which covers large stretches of forest in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts, is particularly vulnerable during the dry winter season. Officials warned that even small sparks can escalate into major blazes, threatening biodiversity and livelihoods.

Forest authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding green cover and appealed for public cooperation. They stressed that collective vigilance is essential to prevent forest fires and protect the fragile ecosystem of the Chenab region.
