Dy CM Surinder Choudhary Reviews Functioning of Industries & Commerce Department Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the performance and functioning of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) Department, Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner Secretary, I&C; Director Industries; Managing Director, SIDCO; General Managers; and senior officers of the department.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the New Central Sector Scheme (NCSS), pending cases, availability and allotment of land in industrial estates across Kashmir, status of functional and sick units, auction of industrial units and related revenue, as well as projects under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI).

The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the progress and execution timelines of ongoing industrial and infrastructure projects, stressing the need for transparency, efficiency, and timely completion.

He directed officers to promote an investor-friendly environment, extend full support to start-up entrepreneurs, and frame policies that foster sustainable trade and industrial growth.

Emphasizing effective implementation of incentive-based schemes, Choudhary instructed General Managers to actively pursue applicant cases in accordance with laid-down norms to ensure that benefits reach every eligible beneficiary without delay.

Highlighting the government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Deputy Chief Minister said that efforts are being made to make Jammu and Kashmir an attractive and hassle-free destination for investors.

He further directed the Industries Department to establish stronger linkages with JKEDI, Mission YUVA, Employment Department, banks, and other allied agencies to create a supportive ecosystem for startups and entrepreneurship, thereby generating greater employment opportunities.

Surinder Choudhary also asked General Managers to identify suitable land in every district for the development of new industrial estates to boost investment and job creation.

He urged the department to adopt a proactive and inclusive approach toward strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial ecosystem with a focus on employment generation, sustainability, and competitiveness.
