Srinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday clarified that his recent remarks were misinterpreted and were not directed at Srinagar Member of Parliament Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi.
Choudhary explained that his comments made during a public event a day earlier — where he said he did not know Ruhullah — were actually referring to a BJP candidate, not the National Conference leader.
He said the confusion arose due to the “rush and noise” at the event, which led to a misunderstanding about whom the remark was intended for.
“I hold Aga Ruhullah Mehdi in high regard. He is an honourable leader and an elected representative of the people of Srinagar,” Choudhary said. He added that he had no intention of making any personal or political comment against the MP.
The clarification came after Choudhary’s earlier statement drew reactions on social media, with many users questioning its intent.
Choudhary further emphasised that he maintains cordial relations with all public representatives and believes mutual respect among leaders is vital for effective governance and public service.
