Deputy CM Highlights Preparedness to Ensure Public Safety During Harsh Winter Conditions

SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall functioning and preparedness of the Mechanical and Hospital Engineering (M&HE) Department, aimed at ensuring smooth delivery of essential services and uninterrupted operations of vital installations across the Kashmir division.

During the meeting, the Deputy CM discussed the challenges posed by harsh winter conditions, particularly in snow-bound areas of the Kashmir Valley and high-altitude regions of the Jammu division. Assessing preparedness for the anticipated heavy snowfall, he directed the deployment of advanced machinery and stressed the importance of prompt response in affected regions to maintain public safety and mobility.

He called for enhanced coordination between departments and the timely issuance of public advisories, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to higher reaches during heavy snowfall. “Timely advisories should inform the public about safety measures and precautionary steps,” he added.

Choudhary also emphasized safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted provision of essential services, including power, water, and road connectivity. He highlighted the need for a robust mechanism to minimize public inconvenience during severe weather.

The Deputy CM instructed officials to maintain readiness of personnel and equipment to respond swiftly to weather-related challenges. He further directed authorities to prioritize clearing key routes, including inter-district highways and roads leading to hospitals, power grids, water supply systems, and emergency services.
