Islamabad [Pakistan]: A mild earthquake of magnitude 3.6 struck Pakistan in the early hours of Monday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor occurred at 2:42 a.m. at a depth of 90 kilometres. NCS reported the details on X, stating: “EQ of M: 3.6, On: 10/11/2025 02:42:55 IST, Lat: 35.20 N, Long: 73.40 E, Depth: 90 Km, Location: Pakistan.”
This is the second quake of similar magnitude to hit the country this month, following one recorded on November 1.
Pakistan, along with Afghanistan and northern India, lies in one of the world’s most seismically active regions, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates converge. The area frequently experiences moderate to strong earthquakes, often felt across national borders.
The country is intersected by several major fault lines, making it highly vulnerable to seismic activity. Provinces such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan sit along the southern edge of the Eurasian plate, while Sindh and Punjab rest on the northwestern edge of the Indian plate — factors that contribute to frequent tremors.
Balochistan, in particular, lies close to the active boundary between the Arabian and Eurasian plates, while Punjab and Sindh, though less earthquake-prone, remain at risk due to their geological positioning.
