NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has issued a stern warning to political parties against the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create deepfakes or spread misinformation during the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Commission reiterated that all AI-generated or synthetic content used for campaigning—whether on social media or in advertisements—must be clearly labeled as “AI-Generated,” “Digitally Enhanced,” or “Synthetic Content.”
The poll body emphasized that a close watch is being maintained on social media activity to prevent any attempt to distort information or disrupt the election environment.
“The Commission advised parties to refrain from using AI-based tools to produce deepfakes or misleading content, underscoring the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement said.
Earlier, during the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission had issued similar guidelines to curb the misuse of AI and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Bihar will vote in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
