New Delhi: The Government of India has set up the Eighth Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) to review and recommend revisions in pay, allowances, pensions, and other service-related benefits for Central Government employees, defence personnel, and other related staff categories.

The Commission will be headed by Justice (Retd.) Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Prof. Pulak Ghosh as Part-Time Member and Shri Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary. Its mandate includes assessing the existing pay structure to ensure it meets modern administrative needs while maintaining efficiency and fiscal responsibility.

The 8th CPC will also examine allowances, retirement benefits, and incentive mechanisms to make public service more attractive and performance-driven. It will further review pension and gratuity systems for employees both under and outside the National Pension System (NPS).

Based in New Delhi, the Commission has been asked to submit its final recommendations within 18 months, with the option to issue interim reports during its tenure.
