Elon Musk Launches Grokipedia to Rival Wikipedia
Washington: Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has unveiled Grokipedia, a new crowdsourced online encyclopedia designed to compete with Wikipedia.
Announcing the launch on social media, Musk wrote, “Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live,” adding that “Version 1.0 will be 10X better.” He described the project’s mission as “The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”
Musk, who has long accused Wikipedia of spreading “propaganda,” urged users to stop donating to it and revealed in September that his AI company, xAI, was developing Grokipedia.
The newly launched site features a minimalist design with a simple search bar and claims to host 885,279 articles—a far cry from Wikipedia’s 7 million English-language entries. Users can already look up topics ranging from Taylor Swift to the baseball World Series or Buckingham Palace.
Unlike Wikipedia, which is written and edited by volunteers, Grokipedia’s content creation process remains unclear. Reports indicate it is powered by the same xAI model behind Musk’s Grok chatbot, and some entries appear to have been adapted from Wikipedia.
Grokipedia’s own article about Wikipedia accuses the site of harboring “systemic ideological biases—particularly a left-leaning slant in coverage of political figures and topics.”
