“Creativity and ethics must guide future engineers”: Director NIT Srinagar
Srinagar: The Students’ Chapter of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar celebrated Engineers’ Day on Monday with a series of engaging events.
The program opened with a keynote address by. Rajat Srivastava from the Ministry of Good Governance, who underlined the critical role of engineers in nation-building. “Engineers are the backbone of development. From infrastructure to digital innovation, their contributions define the progress of society,” he said.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, urged students to draw inspiration from the legacy of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. “As an institute of national importance, we must ensure our students are not only technically competent but also socially responsible and innovative in addressing the challenges of the 21st century,” he said.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman highlighted the importance of nurturing young minds through platforms like these. “Our students have immense potential. Competitions such as the Idea-thon and quiz help bring out their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities — qualities essential for tomorrow’s leaders,” he noted.
The celebration featured a Quiz Competition testing critical thinking and engineering awareness, followed by the Idea-thon, where students presented solutions on issues ranging from renewable energy to smart infrastructure and digital inclusion. The session was evaluated by Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Pramod Kumar.
Event Coordinator Dr. Iqra Geelani said the aim was to connect classroom learning with real-world challenges. “The quality of ideas showcased today reflects the innovative spirit and social commitment of our students,” she added.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to dignitaries, guests, and student volunteers.
