Former CISF Personnel Arrested in Mumbai for Running ₹2.88 Crore Job Scam; Produced Marathi Films with Fraud Money
MUMBAI: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police on Saturday arrested a former Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel from Delhi for allegedly operating a fake job racket, officials said.
The accused, identified as Nilesh Kashiram Rathod (38), a resident of Akola district in Maharashtra, had reportedly produced two Marathi films using the money obtained through fraudulent means.
According to police, multiple cases have been registered against Rathod in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Akola, Pune, and several locations outside Maharashtra. He is suspected to have defrauded job seekers of at least ₹2.88 crore so far. The EOW has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe around 60 complaints filed against him.
Rathod and his associates allegedly collected between ₹5 lakh and ₹10 lakh from unemployed youths by promising them government jobs in various state and central departments. They even conducted fake medical tests and issued counterfeit appointment letters to the victims.
Rathod, who was dismissed from the CISF a few years ago, is believed to have been running the racket since 2022. The case came to light after Beed resident Santosh Kharpude lodged a complaint with the EOW.
During the investigation, police traced Rathod’s wife to Delhi and subsequently arrested him from the Dwarka Mor area. Further investigation into the case is underway, officials added.
