Pulwama: Father of Delhi Blast Suspect Detained for Questioning
Srinagar: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday detained the father of the man suspected to be driving the car that exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort, officials said.
Ghulam Nabi Bhat was taken into custody from his residence in Koil, Pulwama, just hours after his wife was called in for a DNA test, they added.
Officials further said that several doctors who had been working in Faridabad with the blast suspect, identified as Umar Nabi, have also been rounded up for questioning. Additionally, three people connected to the sale and purchase of the Hyundai i20 car used in the explosion have been detained. However, no formal arrests have been made so far.
According to Delhi Police sources, Umar Nabi — a doctor from Pulwama — was allegedly driving the car that exploded near the Red Fort metro station parking area. CCTV footage from the vicinity reportedly captured the suspect driving the vehicle moments before the blast.
Investigators believe Umar may have ties to a terror module operating in Faridabad, where a large quantity of explosive materials was seized recently.
Preliminary forensic analysis indicates that the blast could have involved ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators. Police sources also said there are early indications of a link between the Delhi explosion and the Faridabad module, from which 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered. “Final reports are awaited,” an official said.
