Punjab Police Neutralises Key Accused in RSS Leader’s Son Murder Case During Escape Attempt

FEROZEPUR (Punjab), Nov 27: Punjab Police announced that a key accused in the murder of an RSS leader’s son was killed in a gunfight on Thursday after two of his accomplices attempted to free him from police custody near Mahamujohia village in Ferozepur district.

The accused, Badal, a resident of Basti Bhattian, had been arrested on Wednesday for his involvement in the November 15 murder of Naveen Arora, son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, who was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Ferozepur.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Ferozepur Range, Harmanbir Singh Gill said that during interrogation, Badal disclosed information about his two associates—Raju and Sonu. He told police that the duo had planned to take him to Rajasthan after picking him up around 5 am on Thursday from near the Mahamujohia cremation ground, where he had also hidden weapons.

The DIG stated that acting on Badal’s disclosure, a police team took him to the location where the accomplices were suspected to be hiding. On spotting the police, the two men opened fire with the intention of freeing Badal. The police retaliated in self-defence, resulting in Badal sustaining bullet injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh said that given the sensitive nature of the case, special teams were constituted immediately after the murder. Through technical intelligence, human intelligence, CCTV footage, and witness statements, police were able to identify the suspects involved in the killing.

During the exchange of fire, Head Constable Balor Singh also sustained injuries, while a bullet struck the bullet-proof jacket worn by Constable Gurmeet Singh. The two attackers managed to escape under the cover of dense fog and darkness, the SSP said.

He added that the investigation is being conducted from all possible angles, and search operations are underway to nab the remaining suspects.

The Ferozepur Police have already arrested three individuals—Harsh, Kannav, and Gursimran Singh alias Jatin alias Kali, all residents of Basti Bhattian—in connection with the murder. (PTI)
