Fire Breaks Out in Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express Near Sirhind, One Injured

Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab): A fire erupted in one of the coaches of the Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express near Sirhind railway station on Saturday morning, officials said.

According to the Railway Board, one passenger sustained minor injuries in the incident, the cause of which is yet to be determined.

The fire broke out around 7:30 AM when the train (number 12204) was en route from Amritsar. A Government Railway Police (GRP) official said smoke was first noticed in one of the AC coaches, following which a passenger pulled the alarm chain to stop the train. All passengers were safely evacuated soon after.

The flames quickly engulfed coach G-19, and two adjoining coaches sustained minor damage. The affected coaches were detached from the rest of the train, and fire tenders were called to the spot, the GRP official added.

A 32-year-old woman suffered burn injuries and was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib, said Rattan Lal, Station House Officer, GRP Sirhind.

Railway officials confirmed that passengers from the affected coach were shifted to other coaches, and the train is expected to resume its journey shortly.
