NEW DELHI: Bomb threats sent via email triggered panic at five private schools in Delhi on Wednesday morning, leading to immediate evacuations and security checks, officials said.
This marks the third consecutive day of such threats targeting educational institutions in the national capital, with previous alerts later confirmed as hoaxes.
According to fire department officials, a threat call was received regarding St Thomas School in Dwarka at 5:26 am. Similar emails were reported by Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj at 6:30 am, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar at 8:11 am, and Mother’s International School in Hauz Khas at 8:12 am.
Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate also received a threatening email, a senior police official confirmed. The premises were thoroughly searched, and no suspicious items were found.
In a message to parents, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya stated: “Due to a potential bomb threat received this morning and on police advice, the school will remain closed today. A Bomb Disposal Squad is conducting a full sanitisation of the premises.”
This is the second threat in under 24 hours received by St Thomas School.
In total, nine schools have received 10 bomb threat emails so far.
Staff members who were present overnight at the affected schools were safely evacuated. Teams from Delhi Police, the bomb disposal squad, dog squads, and cyber experts carried out extensive searches, but nothing suspicious has been detected, officials added.
