Srinagar: Police in Jammu and Kashmir arrested five suspected drug peddlers, including a woman, during separate operations across the region on Tuesday, officials said.
In north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a woman identified as Alaf Noor of Khawarpara, Karnah, was apprehended at Sadhna Top during a routine security check. Police said a substantial quantity of contraband was recovered from her possession. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway to trace the source, destination, and possible cross-border narco-links.
In another operation in Kupwara, police detained Syed Aijaz Ahmad Shah and Syed Ahmad Shah, both residents of Kakadpati Dever, after they were found carrying charas during a patrol in the Kariwan Park area of Dever, Lolab.
In south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police arrested Showkat Ahmad Thoker of Ramnagri during a routine check near the Government Higher Secondary School in Hermain. Authorities seized 164 grams of charas-like substance from him.
Meanwhile, in Pulwama’s Awantipora area, acting on a tip-off, police raided a rented house in Grendash. The property, occupied by Mukhtar Ahmed Boked of Jammu, yielded six bags containing about 95 kg of Fukki. During the raid, Parvez Ahmed Boked was arrested, while the main accused Mukhtar Ahmed remains absconding. Efforts are on to trace him.
Police said separate cases have been registered at the respective police stations, and further investigations are in progress.
