Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported on Sunday that at least 1,006 people have lost their lives and over 3.02 million have been rescued since June 26 amid relentless rains and flash floods, The Express Tribune said.
According to the NDMA, 5,768 rescue operations were carried out nationwide, during which 273,524 relief items were distributed. Medical aid was provided to 662,098 people at 741 camps established with the support of Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), the Pakistan Army, and other emergency services.
Punjab recorded the highest toll with 304 deaths, including 110 children, 143 men, and 51 women. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) reported 504 deaths, Sindh 80, Balochistan 30, Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB) 41, Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) 38, and Islamabad nine. Nationwide, 1,063 people were injured, most of them in Punjab (661).
Rescue efforts were concentrated in Punjab, where 2.81 million people were evacuated in 4,749 operations. Sindh followed with 184,011 rescues in 753 operations, and K-P with 14,317 rescues in 211 operations.
The floods caused large-scale damage to property and infrastructure, with 12,569 homes affected—4,128 destroyed and 8,441 partially damaged. At least 6,509 livestock were lost. Nationwide, 239 bridges and 1,981 km of roads were damaged or destroyed, including 52 bridges and 437 km of roads in K-P, 94 bridges and 201 km of roads in PoJK, and 87 bridges and 20 km of roads in PoGB.
Relief supplies included tents, blankets, hygiene kits, food packs, ration bags, solar panels, de-watering pumps, and generators. A total of 1,690 camps were set up, comprising 741 medical camps that treated more than 662,000 people and 949 relief camps that sheltered over 152,000 individuals.
The NDMA said relief operations, infrastructure restoration, and rehabilitation efforts remain ongoing.
