Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) has finalized a comprehensive winter strategy to secure the Jammu sector and counter infiltration attempts by Pakistan-based terrorists who may try to exploit foggy weather conditions in the coming months, a senior officer said on Friday.

BSF Inspector General (Jammu Frontier) Shashank Anand said intelligence inputs indicate that terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) are regrouping after suffering heavy losses during Operation Sindoor in May.

“In the winter months, fog poses the biggest challenge in the Jammu sector. Our winter strategy is ready, and our jawans are on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt from across the border,” Anand told reporters in Jammu.

He said that despite repeated attempts by the enemy to push terrorists across the border, the BSF has successfully thwarted all such designs.

“The BSF is in constant coordination with other security agencies and is fully prepared to give a befitting response to any provocation. There is no cause for panic — our forces are closely monitoring all movements across the border,” he added.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, Anand said Indian forces carried out missile strikes in May that destroyed nine terror infrastructures, including key camps of LeT and JeM. The BSF also neutralized several terror launch pads along the International Border and the Line of Control.

“Intelligence inputs suggest that the terror groups are now shifting hideouts and regrouping. We are ready to act whenever necessary,” the IG said.

While a ceasefire agreement with Pakistan remains in effect, Anand emphasized that any attempt to infiltrate or push foreign terrorists will be met with strong retaliation.

“The government has given us a free hand — a shell will answer a bullet. This message is clear to all our personnel on the borders,” he asserted.

The IG also highlighted the effectiveness of counter-drone and air defence systems used during Operation Sindoor but cautioned against complacency.

“We must continue to upgrade our technology. Modern warfare involves drones, UAVs, missile systems, and Artificial Intelligence. The BSF is keeping pace — we recently hosted a ‘school of drone warfare’ at our Gwalior academy to enhance the skills of our jawans and officers,” Anand said.

He added that the force will utilize its latest drone capabilities to both counter and strike enemy targets if required.

As part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, the BSF will organize a full marathon in Jammu on November 9, marking 60 years since its formation in 1965.

“This will be the first event of its kind aimed at connecting with border residents, promoting fitness, and identifying local sports talent for national and international events,” Anand said.
