Mumbai: The 27th edition of the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) Awards took place in Mumbai on Tuesday evening, celebrating outstanding performances from cricketers around the world. Former India captain Rohit Sharma was the star attraction — not just for his charismatic presence, but for the special honour he received at the event.

Under Rohit’s leadership, India clinched back-to-back ICC titles — first the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados and then the 2025 Champions Trophy in March — remaining unbeaten throughout both tournaments. His 76-run masterclass in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand sealed a historic win for India.

The ceremony also marked Rohit’s first public appearance since being removed as India’s ODI captain, ahead of the upcoming series in Australia beginning October 19. The veteran opener received his award from cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Among other major winners, Sanju Samson was named Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year for his prolific run-scoring form, which included three T20I centuries last year. Since 2024, Samson has tallied 619 runs in 25 matches at an average of 32.57.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy bagged the Men’s T20I Bowler of the Year, having taken 38 wickets in 18 matches at an impressive average of 12.94, including two five-wicket hauls.

Shreyas Iyer was honoured for finishing as India’s top scorer in the Champions Trophy, amassing 243 runs in five innings with a best of 79. Harsh Dubey earned the Domestic Cricketer of the Year title for his record-breaking 69 wickets in Vidarbha’s Ranji Trophy-winning campaign.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi was named Emerging Young Player of the Year, following his breakthrough IPL season with 300 runs in 12 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders.

In the women’s category, India dominated the awards — Deepti Sharma was named Women’s International Bowler of the Year, while Smriti Mandhana claimed the Women’s International Batter of the Year title.

On the international stage, England’s Harry Brook was recognised as the Men’s Test Batter of the Year for his consistent red-ball brilliance, and Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya took home the Men’s Test Bowler of the Year award.

England great Joe Root won the prestigious Men’s International Cricketer of the Year, while West Indies legend Brian Lara received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lara, the Caribbean’s all-time leading run-scorer with 22,260 runs, expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying:

“To be honoured at such a celebrated platform is truly special. It’s wonderful to know my journey in cricket continues to be remembered and cherished. I thank CEAT for recognising the spirit and effort behind every performance.”

Former India spin great Bhagwath Chandrasekhar was also honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his stellar record of 242 wickets in 58 Tests, including 16 five-wicket hauls and two ten-fors, with a best of 8/79.

Reflecting on the honour, Chandrasekhar said:

“This award means a great deal as it comes from a platform that has celebrated the best in cricket for years. It’s both humbling and inspiring, and I hope it motivates future players to believe in the possibilities the game holds.”
