Poonch: Heavy Rain Triggers Land Subsidence, Nearly 400 Residents Shifted to Shelters

Nearly 400 residents of Kalaban village in Mendhar sub-division, Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, have been moved to temporary shelters after several houses developed cracks due to land subsidence caused by continuous rainfall, officials said on Monday.

Authorities, with support from a local NGO, are providing relief materials and essential supplies to the displaced families. The administration has declared Kalaban unsafe and instructed residents to remain evacuated until further notice.

Earlier, on September 13, around 700 people were affected, and nearly 95 houses suffered damage following days of heavy rain. Families in relief camps are being supplied with food, drinking water, and other basic necessities, officials added.
