France’s Defence Minister has said that the European Union is considering the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to support and strengthen the bloc’s defence industry. The proposal, which is still under discussion, aims to explore whether the seized assets could be redirected towards enhancing defence production amid ongoing security challenges in the region.

The minister noted that the idea remains at a preliminary stage, but reflects the EU’s broader efforts to bolster its strategic capabilities while responding to geopolitical pressures. Further consultations among EU member states are expected before any formal decision is taken.
