HRDS India to Build 1,500 Smart Houses for Affected Families in J&K
SRINAGAR: In a major humanitarian initiative, the High-range Rural Development Society (HRDS India) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir for the construction of houses damaged during Operation Sindoor and recent floods.
The initiative, launched under the vision of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, aims to empower and secure the future of families affected by natural disasters, unprovoked cross-border shelling, and terrorism.
Presiding over the MoU signing ceremony at Raj Bhawan, the Lieutenant Governor commended HRDS India for the noble endeavour. “Construction of houses is more than just putting up a structure. It is about building dreams, a fresh start and a new chapter in the lives of affected families. Human losses are profound and immeasurable, but this initiative will surely ease their suffering,” he said.
Under the project, HRDS India will construct 1,500 free three-bedroom ‘Smart Houses’, equipped with modern features to ensure safety, comfort, and digital connectivity.
As part of its extended commitment:
- Families of terror victims whose homes were destroyed will also be covered.
- Each household will receive 15-year life insurance coverage, monthly health check-ups, and free internet access through collaboration with BSNL.
- HRDS India volunteers will conduct regular visits to disseminate information on new government schemes, and hold free awareness sessions on health, education, hygiene, and preventive care.
- Beneficiary houses will be repainted every five years at no cost.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the LG; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Aji Krishnan, Founder-Secretary HRDS India; Saritha P. Menon, Administrator; Swaraj Kumar G., Director Corporate Sponsorship; and Sanjeev Bhatnagar, Chairman Global Initiatives, HRDS India.
