New Delhi/Bhuj: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday sent a firm message to Pakistan, warning against any aggression in the Sir Creek region. He stated that any hostile move would be met with a “resounding response” capable of altering “history and geography.”
Singh made the remarks at a military base near Bhuj, Gujarat, while celebrating Dussehra with troops and performing the traditional shastra puja (worship of weapons).
Highlighting the Indian military’s recent operations, he said the objectives of Operation Sindoor had been fully achieved, adding that provoking a war with Pakistan was never the aim. However, his comments on Sir Creek drew significant attention.
“Any aggression by Pakistan in the Sir Creek area will be met with a resounding response that will change both history and geography. In the 1965 war, the Indian Army reached Lahore. Today, in 2025, Pakistan should remember that one route to Karachi passes through the creek,” he said.
Sir Creek, a 96-km tidal estuary between Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch and Pakistan, remains a disputed area due to differing interpretations of maritime boundaries. Singh noted that despite 78 years of independence, the dispute persists. “India has repeatedly sought dialogue, but Pakistan’s intentions remain unclear. Its recent expansion of military infrastructure near Sir Creek reveals its true objectives,” he added.
On Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on May 7, Singh said the Indian military successfully targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled areas. “Pakistan attempted to breach India’s defence from Leh to Sir Creek but failed. Our forces exposed their air defence system and sent a clear message: India can inflict heavy losses whenever required,” he said.
He emphasized that India exercised restraint, as the operation was strictly counter-terrorism in nature. “Escalating it into war was never the goal. I am proud that our forces achieved all military objectives, but the fight against terrorism continues,” Singh added.
The Defence Minister also underscored the importance of joint operations among the Army, Air Force, and Navy. “The success of Operation Sindoor reflects the jointness of our armed forces. Your strategy, courage, and capability prove that India can defeat the enemy in every situation,” he said.
Singh, who has performed shastra puja on Dussehra for several years, described weapons not merely as instruments of power, but as a means to uphold righteousness. “For us, weapons symbolize duty and justice, not just strength,” he said.
