KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday handed over vehicles, medical equipment, and military animals to Nepal Army Chief Gen. Ashok Raj Sigdel, marking a boost to bilateral defence cooperation.
Misri, who arrived in Nepal on Sunday for a two-day official visit, presented the “light strike vehicles, critical care medical equipment, and military animals” during a ceremony. The Indian Embassy said the gesture reflects the “close relationship between the two armies and our robust defence cooperation,” adding that it embodies “the spirit of trust and partnership that has long characterised our enduring ties.”
The visit comes at the invitation of Misri’s Nepalese counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai. On Sunday, he met Nepal’s top leadership and held discussions on strengthening ties across multiple sectors.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, Misri’s trip also carries a diplomatic message: he has delivered an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli for a proposed visit to India on September 16–17.
Misri is scheduled to return to New Delhi later on Monday.
