GCOE Jammu Celebrates International Literacy Day with Enthusiasm

JAMMU: The Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu marked International Literacy Day with vibrant celebrations, underscoring the vital role of education and literacy in today’s society.

The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal of GCOE Jammu, and Prof. Dr. Renu Nanda, Current State Commissioner of Rangers-Bhartiya Scouts and Guides, Jammu and Kashmir Unit, who attended as the Chief Guest.

The celebration featured a variety of engaging activities, including an Essay Writing Competition, Storytelling Competition, the creation of a Wall of Fame, establishing a Book Bank, and the enrollment of volunteers for the Rover Rangers Unit at the college. Students enthusiastically showcased their literary skills and creativity.

In the Essay Writing Competition, Tanshiq Sumbaria secured first place, Peehu and Manvi Sharma shared second place, while Simranjeet Kaur took third. In the Storytelling Competition, Mrinali and Saiyushi claimed the top position. The innovative Wall of Fame also saw active student participation.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Renu Nanda lauded the students’ efforts and highlighted the importance of literacy for personal and societal growth. She also inaugurated the Rover Rangers Unit at GCOE Jammu, opening a new avenue for students to engage in community service and youth development.

Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar appreciated the NSS team’s dedication, noting that the new Rover Rangers Unit would offer students opportunities in leadership development, community service, and skill-building activities. Awards were also presented to Rangers in recognition of their community contributions. Prof. Satish Sharma and Dr. Shalini Rana served as judges for the competitions.

The programme was organized by Dr. Shubhra Jamwal, NSS Programme Officer, along with her team, including Prof. Deepali Devi, Dr. Ambica Sharma, Dr. Rajinder Kour, Dr. Devinder Kour, Dr. Sushma Bala, and Dr. Rakesh Bharti.
