GCW Parade students excel at Everest BKCC Season 7

JAMMU: The students of the Department of Home Science, Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, brought laurels to the institution by securing top honours at the prestigious Everest Better Kitchen Culinary Challenge (BKCC) Season 7, held at the Food Craft Institute (FCI), Jammu.

The achievement came under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo, who, despite ongoing internal assessments, encouraged and permitted the students to participate, recognising the importance of such platforms in enhancing practical skills and industry exposure. His guidance and commitment to holistic student development were instrumental in the team’s success.

The students were mentored by Prof. Tazim Akhtar and Dr. Shazia Bashir, who served as Teachers In-Charge. Their dedicated mentorship, continuous support, and expert guidance played a vital role in shaping the participants’ performance and confidence throughout the competition.

GCW Parade’s Team Everest Kasuri Methi, represented by Asifa Zohra and Shabnam Kousar, clinched the First Position in the culinary challenge. The college also achieved remarkable success in the Better Kitchen Bakery Champion category, with Archi Sharma and Rishita Sharma securing the Second Position and Taniya Sharma and Tanisha Chadha bagging the Third Position.

Organised by Better Kitchen Magazine, Everest BKCC is India’s largest culinary competition for hotel management students, aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry while promoting Indian regional cuisine globally. The Jammu round featured a distinguished panel of judges, including Chef Rajib Mitra (Radisson Blu), Chef Sudhin N. Gaikwad (Taj Vivanta), Chef Nayan (Amantran), and Mohinder Singh (Radisson Blu), among others.

GCW Parade Ground extended heartfelt gratitude to Principal Jyoti Bhatti and the team at FCI Nagrota for their warm hospitality and for providing such an enriching platform for budding chefs.

The Department of Home Science reaffirmed its commitment to promoting skill-based learning and professional excellence. This achievement stands as a testament to the college’s dedication to empowering students through experiential education and fostering industry-ready talent.
