GDC R.S. Pura hosts National Workshop-cum-Skill Enhancement Fest “Artful Bond”

JAMMU: Government Degree College (GDC) R.S. Pura today organized a National Workshop-cum-Skill Enhancement Fest titled “Artful Bond” under the patronage of College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour and the supervision of IQAC.

Dr. Narinder Singh Raina, Member Legislative Assembly, R.S. Pura, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while renowned flutist Pt. Santosh Sant was the resource person.

A distinguished disciple of the legendary Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Santosh Sant was accompanied by Harshiti Giri and Neeraj Verma on tabla. A celebrated artist, Pt. Santosh Sant has performed at numerous prestigious music festivals across India and abroad. His exceptional contributions to Indian classical music have earned him accolades such as the Gold Medal from the Department of Culture, Government of India, and the Directorate General of All India Radio. He is also the recipient of several honors including Abhinav Kala Samman, Soordas Samman, Surmani, Venu-Shree, and the Pt. Bhimsen Joshi National Award.

The audience was captivated by an enthralling musical performance that beautifully showcased the soulful depth and expressive charm of the flute.

The event was further graced by the presence of Dr. Sujata Slathia, Principal, GDC Ghagwal, and Dr. Meeru Abrol from GDC Ramgarh, adding to the event’s prestige.

The proceedings began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Shivani Manchanda, Head of the Department of Economics.

The Workshop-cum-Skill Fest also featured a vibrant array of food and ceramic stalls, creating a lively and culturally rich atmosphere. Visitors enjoyed an assortment of traditional, regional, and fusion delicacies that celebrated the area’s diverse culinary heritage. The ceramic art section displayed exquisite pottery, mandala art, and decorative pieces crafted by students, reflecting their creativity and craftsmanship.

The college’s achievements in academics, culture, and sports were also showcased during the event.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Dr. Anupama Pandotra, Dr. Jasmeet Kour (HOD Music), Prof. Lukesha Dubgotra (NSS PO), and Dr. Roopali Slathia.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shivani Manchanda, HOD Economics, marking the conclusion of a day that beautifully blended art, culture, and learning.
