Vijaypur: Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur organized an awareness workshop on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) to educate faculty, staff, and students about the legal provisions that ensure a safe and respectful workplace and academic environment.
The workshop was held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Ashu Vashisht, who reaffirmed the college’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and underscored the importance of creating an inclusive and secure atmosphere on campus. In her inaugural address, Dr. Vashisht emphasized that awareness and effective implementation of the POSH Act are essential for the empowerment and well-being of women within the institution.
Dr. Arti Sharma, Nodal Officer, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), delivered a detailed lecture on the provisions of the POSH Act, including the definition of sexual harassment, procedures for filing complaints, the composition and role of the ICC, and the safeguards available to complainants. Her session aimed to enhance understanding of the rights and responsibilities of all stakeholders under the Act. Dr. Naseem Choudhary, ICC member, also shared insights on the significance of the legislation.
The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Ritu Bhagat (Dept. of Education), Dr. Manoj Heer (Dept. of Dogri), Dr. Naseem Choudhary (Dept. of English), Prof. Meetu Sharma (Dept. of Geography), Dr. Pooja Gupta (Dept. of Commerce), Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal (Dept. of Education), Prof. Sonia Devi (Dept. of Hindi), Dr. Anoop Singh (Dept. of History), and Prof. Manisha Bharti (Dept. of Computer Applications). Students actively participated in the interactive session.
The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Mamta Gupta, Presiding Officer of the ICC, who extended her gratitude to the Principal, Nodal Officer, faculty, and participants for contributing to a highly informative and meaningful event.
