SAMBA, : In continuation to the series of activities being organized under the celebration of International Women’s Day, Department of English Govt. Degree College Vijaypur organized a documentary screening on the importance of celebration of International Women’s Day. The programme started with a welcome address by English Lecturer Dr. Sana Farooq Lone. She highlighted the incredible contribution of women and their long struggle for equality, respect and justice.
The documentary helped the students to understand the challenges women face to achieve what they are and where they are right now. A proper historical background was provided through the documentary whereby the importance of 8th March was highlighted. Moreover, the programme also highlighted the women’s fight for equality and liberation along with the women’s rights movement.
The College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma expressed her admiration for the courage, potential and strength of women. She highlighted the significance of such events in acknowledging women’s achievements, promoting discussions on gender bias and advocating substantive transformation.
The programme was organized under the able guidance and supervision of esteemed Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta. The programme was carried out with the support of the senior faculty members Prof. Anita Jamwal (HOD Political Science),Dr. Manoj Heer (HOD Dogri),Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (HOD English),Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences). It was coordinated by Dr. Sana Farooq Lone (Dept of English), Dr Noreen Jaral (Dept of Education) and Dr. Sonia Jamwal (Dept of History).
