Jodhpur: Geetanjali Angmo on Wednesday said she visited her husband, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, at Jodhpur Central Jail, where he has been lodged following the September 24 Leh violence.

In a post on X, Angmo said she met Wangchuk on Tuesday along with lawyer Ritam Khare, adding that his legal team has now obtained the detention order, which will be challenged in court. The order, she said, details the allegations against Wangchuk and the reasons for invoking the National Security Act (NSA).

Earlier, on Saturday, Wangchuk’s brother Tsetan Dorje and lawyer Mustafa Haji also met him in jail. Following the visit, Haji posted on X that Wangchuk has demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the killing of four people during last month’s protest, asserting that he is ready to stay in jail until such an inquiry is conducted.

Meanwhile, Angmo has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking her husband’s release. The matter is scheduled for hearing on October 14.

Wangchuk was detained under the NSA after violent clashes erupted in Ladakh during a protest demanding statehood and inclusion of the Union Territory under the Sixth Schedule. He was initially taken to Delhi and later shifted to Jodhpur Central Jail on September 26.
