Srinagar: Building on the overwhelming success of its debut edition, the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, is gearing up to host the second edition of its popular “Know Your Artisan” series under the Soulful Kashmir campaign.
After drawing huge crowds at the Jhelum Riverfront—where visitors experienced live craft demonstrations, interacted with master artisans, and purchased authentic GI-tagged products—the spotlight now turns to Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower Arena) in the heart of Srinagar on October 25.
In a statement issued today, a department spokesperson invited the public to participate in large numbers and extend their support to Kashmir’s celebrated artisans, whose craftsmanship has earned global acclaim.
“Visitors can look forward to an afternoon filled with immersive experiences—hands-on interactions with a new lineup of artisans showcasing intricate woodwork, fine embroidery, and classic weaving traditions; engaging storytelling sessions that unveil the creative journeys behind each masterpiece; and lively display-cum-sale stalls offering exclusive Soulful Kashmir collections,” the spokesperson said.
As part of the event, 10 dedicated stalls will feature various GI-certified crafts from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., alongside a special ‘Try Your Hands’ corner where visitors can try pottery wheels, handlooms, and Pashmina spinning.
Encouraging people to be “Vocal for Local,” the spokesperson expressed hope that the event would rekindle pride in Kashmir’s rich artisanal heritage while promoting sustainable livelihoods.
“The enthusiasm from the first edition was incredible, and we now invite every Srinagarite, visitor, and culture enthusiast to join us at Lal Chowk and make this celebration of craftsmanship an even greater success,” the spokesperson added.
