Jammu: Lieutenant General Rajan Sharawat, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps, visited Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday to assess the operational preparedness of troops deployed in the region.

According to a defence spokesperson, “The GOC, Rising Star Corps, reviewed the operational readiness of troops stationed in the Bani–Macchedi sector of Kathua and commended their courage, dedication, and high level of preparedness.”

The Bani–Macchedi mountainous belt in Kathua has been the site of multiple terror-related incidents and encounters over the past eighteen months. The area is believed to serve as an infiltration corridor leading towards the Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts from the International Border (IB).

In a bid to curb infiltration, the Army had stationed several companies in the high-altitude Bani–Macchedi area last year to strengthen security along this sensitive stretch.
