Google Home Devices Get Gemini AI: Free and Paid Versions Coming
Google is finally bringing its Gemini AI to Google Home devices, offering both free and paid versions of the chatbot. Following Amazon’s lead, Google has unveiled Gemini-powered smart speakers this month, set to launch in early 2026. These new speakers allow users to have natural conversations with the AI assistant right out of the box, building on what Google Assistant offered before.
The standout feature with Gemini is that you no longer need to repeat the wake word for each interaction, allowing conversations to flow more naturally. Amazon’s Alexa+ is moving in a similar direction, showcased in the latest Echo Dot Max and Studio speakers.
What to Expect from Google Home Speaker With Gemini
Gemini will arrive on smart speakers in an early access version this month, effectively replacing the older Google Assistant. Google has confirmed that the Home version of Gemini will include both free and paid options. While the free tier will cover most functionalities, premium features such as Gemini Live are likely to be reserved for the paid subscription. Pricing details for the premium version are yet to be revealed and are expected in the coming months.
The new Google Home Speaker offers 360-degree audio to fill any room. Users can pair two speakers with a Google TV streamer for a surround-sound experience. The design reflects the quality of the Nest series but has been reshaped to improve audio performance, with LED lights that activate when Gemini speaks.
Initially, the Home Speaker will launch in the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe. India is not currently on the list, but this doesn’t rule out a future release. Google may wait until the product and Gemini for Home are fully optimized for regions with more complex language requirements.
