Rajouri: Govt primary school reopens after 25 years following land dispute resolution

Jammu: In a major relief for residents, the government primary school in Kewal, Rajouri, has reopened after remaining shut for 25 years due to a prolonged land dispute, officials said on Saturday.

The school building, closed in 2000 after being locked by the landowner, had been operating from a rented space with limited facilities.

Taking serious note of the matter, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma directed Chief Education Officer (CEO) Mohammad Hafeez to visit the site and resolve the issue on priority. Acting swiftly, the CEO held discussions with stakeholders and amicably settled the dispute.

Following the resolution, students were shifted back to the original three-room school building, which has now been made fully functional.

The reopening has brought immense relief and happiness to the local community, who lauded the district administration’s proactive efforts in restoring educational access for the children of Kewal.
